320GB Hitachi Deskstar - Is it dead?

I was through my pile of old hard drives today and found this one, it was in an external casing and I believe it died a while back, but I didn't know why. So I put it off to one side and today decided to take the external casing off. I just want to share with you the noise it's making, who knows, it may still be alive? The drive came out of a Acomdata External Hard Drive. I guess these all come with the Hitachi Deskstar. I can't comment about the quality of these drives, as I use Western Digital, and never had one from Hitachi. When I bought it, it lasted about a month until it died. It's only now I decided to check it out. I can't get the screws off and probably shouldn't try, so I've uploaded a video of the noise it makes when I turn on my computer with it plugged in. Maybe someone watching this can figure out what it is and if it is fixable. edit: RMA'd and expected back in a few weeks.

How Big is Your Hard Drive?

go.tagjag.com - twitter.com - facebook.com - What's the biggest hard drive you have in your possession right now? Which single hard drive in your home has the largest capacity? I happen to have a 3 TB drive here, sent to me as a review unit by Seagate. It's their FreeAgent GoFlex external drive. If you remember, I've reviewed some of their stuff in the past, and been very happy with it. Does this particular drive stand up to the test? chris.pirillo.com

GBTV #590 (HD) | PogoPlug

The PogoPlug is intended help you easily access your files from anywhere, whether you're at home or out and about. Plug the PogoPlug into the wall, attach it to an ethernet cable plugged into your router, then plug an external hard drive or USB stick to it. Once you activate it online, you're set and ready to go. The interface is simple and intuitive. I was surprised to see that not only do you get preview images of your files, you can click to watch a movie, view a photo, or listen to a song. The preview process is immediate and smooth. The transcoding isn't perfect, but surprisingly good. You can find out more at PogoPlug.com. You can also mount it as a hard drive on your desktop and access your files via the iPhone app.
